Sat here in my dressing gown, the notion of getting around to creating a blog has finally caught up with me, so here I am.
The aim of this is to document my escapades and guide other budding travellers around the many possible mistakes I’ve made over the years, in hopes that wherever you’re off to explore you’ll take away a great memory of all the places around this world that lay waiting outside of your door.
At this point I should probably give you some sort of reason to trust my jaded views of these places across the globe so here goes…
My name is Jake Brookes, I’m 24 years old and for the last four years I’ve somehow managed to circumnavigate the globe onboard a cruise ship visiting pretty much every port that’s worth visiting and lived to tell the tale.
I work onboard Holland America Line as an Event Manager a seemingly boring title that encompasses a few more than managing actual events strangely enough. The main scope being to manage the entertainment department, the beauty of which, is that on a cruise line when we arrive into port and our guests disembark the ship, there’s not many people to entertain, meaning I can journey out into our destinations and see exactly what all the fuss is about.
At the end of February I’ll start my next assignment which is two months sailing around Asia to whole bunch of new ports and places I’ve never ventured too, spanning 30 different ports across; Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Philippines, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan.
I hope you’ll enjoy my insights, outlooks and experiences along the way and check out some upcoming posts about retrospective stories and travels in my last 4 years at sea from Juneau, Alaska to Picton, New Zealand and everywhere in between.
